WHO WE ARE – The Houston Maranatha Community Center (HMCC) is a non-profit service managed and supervised by the Houston Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Church (an official church of the Southwest Region Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, the Southwestern Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists and the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists).
PURPOSE – For nearly 20 years the Houston Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Church has been dedicated to serving our community. For the past five years and thanks to the support of a dedicated group of certified volunteers, and our Pathfinders Club (children and teens up to 21 years of age) the Houston Maranatha Community Center -HMCC-, has assisted hundreds of families undergoing financial distress and through times of disaster (such as with hurricanes) as a distribution center for the Houston Food Bank.
During the months of crisis following Hurricane Harvey, the HMCC played a significant role, providing assistance to many families in desperate need.
In our quest for better ways to serve low-income families in Houston’s inner city, we are building a new, larger church and community center, in the Northwest Freeway and Pinemont area (minutes from Northwest freeway at 610 loop).
Construction is well underway (see photos). However, the financial resources are not yet enough to complete an adequate center for the challenge of meeting the many needs of our community.

THE PROJECT
Due to the limited space in our current rental facility, we are severely constrained as to how much we can do. So in 2016 we decided to move forward to the next stage in our community outreach, by purchasing our own site and launching a project to build. This new own facilities will allow us to provide a much broader service to the community through a range of free services that include:
- Food Bank (in partnership with Houston Food Bank).
- Clothing.
- English a Second Language ESL.
- Computer Sciences Classes.
- Healthy Living Education.
- Family Counseling.
- Marriage Crisis Management.
- Immigration Services.
- Referral Services (through city, county, state and federal agencies).
- Financial Aid through third party organizations.
PROJECT SITE – The Houston Maranatha Church and Community Center is located at 5550 Creekmont Drive (Northwest Freeway at Pinemont area). The initial 11,000 sq/ft. church building will house the HMCC. The property is a 3.551 sq./acre site (with the option to purchase another 2/5 sq./acre lot across the street).

PROJECT COST – The overall project has a starting cost of $1,192,672.72. We have already raised $536,000. We still need approximately $656,000 to complete the first phase of the project and become fully operational. Once we raise those funds, we will continue our fundraising in order to expand into the second phase, which will consist of adding new buildings, and hopefully purchasing the lot across the street.
STATUS AS OF SEPTEMBER 12TH, 2019 – The construction project is advancing rapidly, as you can see in the recently taken photos. We anticipate -with your help- raising the funds and completing the entire project by the end of 2019. All architectural and engineering plans and details, as well as all needed permits to build have already been approved by the City of Houston, and are available to review upon request.
